Awaiting little you poem by Le Minh Quoc
Walking in and out holding my breath
Eyes on the watch, eyes up the blue sky
My heart is filled with genuine delight
From now on, pleasant and gratifying, henceforth
Time slips through our fingers
Its tolerance is in a marvelous manner
Set the footprints on this globe
Reaching up tall from bamboo shoots
Sixty years of age through many stages
Life is a cycle turning a new page
Green trees, fragrant fruits, seasonal flowers
A cosy family home is our fulfil power

A poem written in Tu Du maternity hospital by Le Minh Quoc
01 Mar
Accompanying my wife to Tu Du
Looking up at the bright blue sky
My heart with pleasure glorifies
I am a grownup from today
With my own identity
Proving myself an adult
Springtime, fresh and clear
The happy busy moment of the year
The universe is announcing
A newborn is entering
Such a miracle gift
Of health and cry and laugh
You bring to the world
A gift of yourself
The planet has brought to me
Your very own shape
A very tiny seed
from the womb of mummy Lien Anh
excited and enthusiastic
continue our lifelong trip

THE HAPPINESS OF WASHING DIAPERS by Le Minh Quoc
01 Mar
The silhouette of those women has been faded in my memory
I’m back to reality
With pots, pans and cookware
With the happy routine of washing diapers
Busy with the new mother
Together we sing lullabies
To wish our baby goodnight
Oh Uh, sleep, my infant daughter, sleep
No more verses praising lovers
I arrange rhyme to songs
I sing songs to rock our baby to sleep
I have planted the seed
Left my trace on the ground
a seedling sprouts
I sing for my own being
Gently turning the page
Starting with a fresh piece of poetry
With my happy daily routine of washing diapers
The odor of baby discharge is surprisingly sweeter
The dewy cherry lips
Adorable babbles, coos and laughs
After miles of journey in different directions
After many walks of life
This is my destiny at last
Writing lines of poetry
From my heart, luxuriant and totally pleased
I’m longer new but I become reborn
To be little me in the cradle
My very own shape of forthcoming years
I listen to my very own oh uh lullaby songs
With the happiness of my routine diaper washing

HELLO WORLD I HAVE ARRIVED by Le Minh Quoc
01 Mar
Thanks to the surging wave from my soul
It is exciting, loving and very close
A long journey warmed up with sunlight
In each other’s shadow we are so bright
Appreciation for years to come
In each other, each other’s heart and mind
Through the endless green grass, azure sky
Your first vibrant beam has appeared at last
The soul kiss brings incredible bliss
To mother earth my body be mixed
For every day I bend down to listen
A stem reaching out from the moist ground

MI’S TET by Le Minh Quoc
26 Jan
MI’S TET
Mi sometimes throws a tantrum
In tears and irritation
She is much loved
Though being punished
The tet is approaching
She will be taken to grandparents’
Danang and Saigon
Within her reach
Enjoy the spring festival
With lots of tasty food
Danang specialty
Year Cakes are yummy
Mi is getting excited
Though still in tears
She can’t wait for the tet
“Neh Eh Eairh Heh…”
Mum and dad listen
Burst out to laughter:
“Being punished …are you after?”
Mi nodding for “Yes”
Le Minh Quoc
TẾT CỦA EM MÌ
Mì hay nhõng nhẽo
Quấy khóc suốt ngày
Thương thì thương vậy
Nhưng cũng… roi mây
Tết nhất năm này
Ba cho về nội
Đà Nẵng – Sài Gòn
Trong tầm tay với
Vui Xuân phơi phới
Món ăn béo, giòn…
Đậm đà mì Quảng
Bánh tổ thơm ngon
Em Mì nghe khoái
Nhưng cũng khóc nhè
Sốt ruột gọi Tết:
“Ới ò í e…”
Ba mẹ em nghe
Bật cười ha hả:
“Tết ăn… roi mây”
Em Mì liền: “Dạ”

Charles Dickens, in the persona of Mr. Bumble, said that crying “opens the lungs, washes the countenance, exercises the eyes and softens down the temper.” Emotion should play a significant role in prose and poetry. Mi’s crying provides an excellent opportunity for that.

Mi’s Poem by Le Minh Quoc
25 Jan
Mi’s Poem
?
Mum and Mi like granny and aunty Ai
Getting on well suddenly being cold
It’s sunny then rainy without being told
One second yelling the next smiling
?
Day after day, morning, noon and night
One minute grumpy the next happy
One minute chatty the next angry
Four seasons in one day, total
?
Which makes me think of granny and aunty Ai
Mother and daughter are in such good bond
Getting mad and then very fond
Motherhood growing everyday
THƠ CỦA EM MÌ
Mẹ con Mì giống nội và cô Ái
Đang êm ả bỗng… ồn ào ập tới
Mới nắng lên… đột ngột mưa ào
Vừa quát tháo đã… reo vui cười nói
Ngày qua ngày – sáng, trưa, chiều, tối
Mới quấy ti toe… thoáng chốc cười đùa
Vừa tỉ tê đã… ầm ầm giận dỗi
Một ngày thôi mà có đủ bốn mùa
Lại càng nhớ nội và cô Ái
Hai mẹ con thương yêu biết mấy
Hờn giận, làm lành vui sống cần nhau
Tình mẫu tử theo thời gian lớn mãi…

SPRING OF LOVE by Le Minh Quoc
25 Jan
XUÂN CỦA YÊU THƯƠNG
Hành trình tiếp tục lại đi
Ngựa thồ lên dốc sá gì nắng mưa
Từ ngàn sau đến ngàn xưa
Dạ thưa ơn nghĩa, dạ thưa đất trời
Đã bình yên một chỗ ngồi
Nghỉ ngơi hào hứng hát lời trăm năm
Đã êm ấm một chỗ nằm
Vui chung với nước đái dầm trẻ thơ
Quay về yêu dấu non tơ
Bắt đầu tập nói u ơ mỗi ngày
Xòe bàn tay, ngửa bàn tay
Đón lấy ân sủng sum vầy núi non
Niềm vui chan chứa biển sông
Mầm xanh tươi thắm ẵm bồng nâng niu
Thương yêu ừ nhé thương yêu
Giữ gìn, vun vén, chắt chiu… được mùa
LÊ MINH QUỐC
SPRING OF LOVE
A journey after another journey
Horses pulling up the incline despite bad weather
From thousand years ago and beyond
Appreciation to the universe in respond
He is now settled and fulfilled in peace
It’s time to rest for a song of endless happiness
He is now settled with his own close-kit family
He enjoys every moment of wet nappy
Back to the journey the world of caring baby
Babbling and putting sounds together everyday
Open shut them open shut them clap clap clap
Grateful to be granted a grace of unity
Boundless delight filled river and sea
Fresh green sprouts to nurture and raise
Family where life begins and love never ends
Looking after, caring and comprehends

SIMPLICITY
put aside whatsoever is ponderous and weighty
I soothe myself into sleep so that I can dream in fantasy
with the hope of seeing her as I pray
though the road ahead is filled with dust and gray
in the open joyfulness of life
I write verses
like an artist paints to retrieve his last night reverie
using sparkling colours of memory
I learn to love in the twilight shadow
though bloom of youth has faded away the rosy lips
she remains as graceful as river – deep
barren was I like pebbles and rocks
has anyone ever pondered
– that how long the sunlight remains superb?
– whether today the clouds and winds will be tumbling?
– if she will respond to my love?
I only need a shady tree
to lie down
eyes wide open looking at the faraway sky
her vagued verses looming in my mind
I tell myself that is delight
the truthful joy in life
as simple as breathing in and out daily
the joy of being sunk in memory
though she never talks about it
the joy of not listening not looking
is the east sea tilting its side to be distant from the shore?
